This is ALWAYS my favorite story about sex separation in sport. It wasn't just that women started winning, it was that they started SERIOUSLY winning across multiple events. IIRC, this was also something that happened with archery as well.
Don't give the Republicans any ideas.
This isn't even the wildest thing about shooting sports in the Olympics: Dueling used to be an Olympic sport with firearms that fired wax bullets, and they used to have whole shooting categories for military weapons. I shit you not.
Loving this convo as i knew none of it! Thanks, all.
Hmmmm the history of shooting on the Olympic website seems to say something different stillmed.olympic.org/media/Docume...
Holy hell, that's amazing and somehow not surprising
Underappreciated in sports, politics, business, gaming, etc. Their outward propaganda is "____ are inferior" but internally a lot of them are terrified of having to compete against another race or gender. Their real position is "white men DESERVE to win" and it's somehow unfair if they don't.

In 1921, the FA declared football “quite unsuitable for females” and outlawed the sport. Carrie Dunn looks at how far the game was set back...
Yeah. Like sex segregation in a lot of stuff just exist because misogynistic men get super offended when they lose to women not because women are actually at any type of "biological disadvantage". Like testosterone affects your musculature but only in certain specific ways.
Almost as if there is sports where mass and height is making a difference and sports where it is not. (Also, if it's about mass, gender is not the appropriate category)
Cycling, too
