I agree with Catherine here. Generally speaking, although probably with some exceptions, people are buying the same things they always did but it's costing them more, and they are annoyed with this state of affairs.

Except they’re buying <more> things with their greater real income and wages than they were pre-pandemic. And this still doesn’t explain why people haven’t gotten angry like this over rising price levels at any other point in the last four decades. Is the claim that past increases weren’t visible?
