And @katestarbird.bsky.social importantly points out that just the time required to deal with harassment hurts scholarly productivity. She estimates she lost A YEAR of research productivity from dealing with this stuff.
This question about whether "don't feed the trolls" is a good strategy is an interesting one. It makes me wonder if there are certain types of trolls that shouldn't be fed and others that have to be responded to. If so, what are those differences?
