One of the things I want folks to understand about the billionaires who forced the Penn pres to resign is they started all this before Oct 7 and among their complaints is that Penn “prioritizes DEI” is “too social justice focused” and is “unrecognizable” to what it looked like when they attended.
I'm sorry, but whether this true or not, accepting all Jews should be killed or calling for genocide of Jews is hate speech meant to incite violence and should be banned. You can't just yell fire in a theater when there is none.
Not understanding this was a Penn-specific thing is why the NYT spent yesterday breathlessly waiting for Harvard to fire Claudine Gay only to end up disappointed.
I resigned from a tenured position at Penn in 2020. I had presented evidence of racist hiring practices in my department (to Dean, provost etc) and was ignored and then marginalized, taken out of leadership roles, etc. it was swift and definitive. Couldn’t imagine a future there.
Right, but the 3 presidents handed them all this on a platter with their tone-deaf, media-and-public-relations-incompetent performance. This is part of their job and an occasion to rise to. "Be a better orator & more compelling than Stefanik" should be a low bar.
right, they are basically asking “why is this place not essentially segregated like it was when i was a student?”
And they cannot handle having a woman in charge
Mighty white of 'em
colleges never used to be liberal
If you operate a system that depends on the finance or goodwill of the very rich, this kind of action is unavoidable. It's part of the plan to keep things the same, called "conservatism" 😱
