lol I would love to watch an hour long video essay about the psychology of a lengthy story about the most grueling, painful, gut wrenching, nightmarish personality erasure you've ever seen with a couple sentences at the end that assures you the subject asked for it so actually it's a happy ending

Particularly with HDG, part of the wish fulfillment isthe post scarcity society is a mentally ill autistic trans persons paradise. And, yeah I like being comfortable, but there's no way I wouldn't get caught up in a weird hyper specific niche hobby with my big plant buddy forever
I think endings I don't prefer with HDG (and maybe mind control stories in general?) is where the character I've been getting to know and relate too is now a glorified vegetable forever. Completely a personal preference, but like, 'permanently' is a /long ass time/.
If there's one thing empty spaces and hdg needed it was introducing clowns to it
