Yeah, no. The "water" is being used by being heated, and it's then cooled and reused. The water "usage" required to completely train Google's AI program is the same as that used for two Americans' average annual beef consumption. Society's got 99 problems with AI but this shouldn't be one

Try to tone down on Google for your searches also. There's an option to bring Google back to the way it was when it first started out, under "Web" in the filters up top. Select that and you get no AI, no videos, no images, no nothing. Getting tough to find any engines not using AI though.
And the emails don't even work all that well.
I understand the energy cost, but I'm confused about the concept of water cost here. They say it "uses" it for cooling but what happens to the water after that? Is it returned to the water supply, just warmer? Or are AI data centers hoarding huge reserves of water and reusing it? Or something else?
