Republicans understand that, no matter how serious an issue actually is, making a Big Show about it will get attention. They know how to work the media and do so all the time. Democrats, meanwhile, just trust voters to figure it all out on their own like grown ups and, ha ha, no.

Unless you're an expert where it's not yourself or your org that's the subject of the hearing, or you're a federal government official, nobody should voluntarily participate in a congressional hearing if you haven't been subpoenaed. You have literally nothing to gain by showing up and playing along.
