Here's a photo of the stop which is being removed. I actually could see both this and a corner of the new platform standing where I took this photo, but it would take a very different camera angle to try to get both in the same photo.

A low floor light rail boarding platform next to a car lane on one side and railroad tracks on the other. Behind it are a second similar platform for the other direction of travel, and a few houses.

The stop I've been posting about for months is "San Jose & Niagara Ave (outbound to Balboa Park)" mentioned in the linked web page. The stop being eliminated is the one before it (one short block away although not visible in my photos because of the hill/curve). I knew this stop was going away […]

Just saw two trains right behind each other. First one used the platform (even though the cones are still there). The second one didn't. It really seems to be up to what that particular driver does.

Every year @berkeleymorris (in Berkeley, California, USA) hosts a series of FREE workshops in Morris and related dance traditions. No experience is needed, and all are welcome! I'll be teaching the Duns Tew tradition on September 10, and other people will be teaching other forms of Morris on […]

Definitely looking like the use of the platform a few weeks ago was an anomaly/mistake, as this morning I was let off using the non-platform method.

A light rail vehicle stopped on a city street. It is blocking the traffic lane and is about to turn into a rail yard. This is in foggy morning light.

No news on the boarding platform itself but the marked crosswalks at the adjacent intersection have just been restriped.

An intersection with freshly marked crosswalks. At the left of the image is a low floor light rail boarding platform.

Union Station in Los Angeles is eerily similar to Diridon Station in San Jose (in terms of the ramps leading down from a somewhat narrow platform, although I guess the San Jose platform is narrower). Are they from the same time period? (Fact checking myself […] [Original post on sfba.social]

Train platform with tracks on the right and left. In the middle of the platform is a large pedestrian ramp leading downwards.

Pedestrian infrastructure in Los Angeles. The bad news: the sidewalk ends well short of the stoplight where it would be possible to cross the busy street. The good news: there is a use trail through the rosemary.

In the foreground is a sidewalk which ends and is replaced by a narrow path through a waist high rosemary hedge. There is a wide street to the left and some rail tracks to the right.

And we have a winner in the contest! I first posted on July 17 the question of when the boarding platform at the last stop of the M.Ocean View streetcar would open, and I got off the train via this platform today, August 20. The winners are the three people who voted "within 3 months" (but not […]

Today at our favorite light rail boarding island the cones are back and there is some paint on the curb.

Light rail boarding island with traffic cones placed along both edges and white paint on the edge of the platform.
