It's not that we aren't revolted/concerned/enraged or terrified at how brutally the poor in this country and the world are treated. We aren't materially impacted by their suffering. We don't *have* to care so many just don't. It's too much extra stuff in a world already maximally full of stuff.
It's not that tales like this don't bother us, Its that we can arrange for these tales to *never* bother us or at least be so brief as to occasionally and harmlessly jar us when scrolling.
