The recent heavy rainfalls in England reminded me of the exceptional rainfalls in Sep 1968. Both were blocked setups with southerly tracking slack-ish lows (1968 deeper). 100mm+ wasn’t uncommon in SE England with as much as 201mm falling in Tilbury. 129mm at Bromley on the 15th

I guess a difference now, 60yrs later, is that so much additional housing and infrastructure has been built in flood-vulnerable areas. So for comparable events the impacts are now far greater.
