As we fall into October, let’s embrace the supernatural vibes of the sea. The giant red mysid is a ghost of the deep, shrouded in darkness — and sometimes bioluminescence spew.

A striking sanguine giant red mysid from below, with elongated antennae and numerous visible limbs on its exposed abdomen, stands out in contrast against a deep, dark backdrop.

A wee selection of 330 million year old treasure 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🖤

Image showing a selection of 330 million year old fossil crinoid parts arranged into a 40mm x 40mm square. Fossils from Fife, Scotland. The crinoids are varied in shape and size and resemble nuts and bolts. Some are circular (individual ossicles/columnals), some circular with holes in the middle like polo mints, and some cylindrical shaped stem pieces. Some of the disc ones have star shaped centres. This is the lumen/axial canal which would have housed the animals nervous system etc. The background is a piece of agate from Germany which is pale blueish green in colour.

Fujianvenator. This was to have been a sketch, but it got away from me, which was when I should have stopped. It spiralled into series of attempts to salvage the previous misstep. A stupid time sink for an indifferent result. 😐

Brown and black pencil drawing of Fujianvenator, a long-legged feathered dinosaur.

Today I learned that back in 1998 some poor guy called Alfonso Nino started getting irate calls from strangers for all the terrible weather lately, and that after a while he realized that it was because his name appeared in the phonebook as “Al Nino” (close to El Niño) https://t.co/w6B0KBdnwt

Edward Jenner, creator of the smallpox vaccine, was sent by England to negotiate with Napoleon over the release of prisoners, because, as Napoleon said: "I could refuse nothing to Jenner."

my chemistry teacher told us that Jonas Salk got standing ovations from fellow passengers whenever he flew. I can’t imagine.
