I really wonder who keeps forcing all the "Science of ____" folks onto right-wing platforms? And I guess if they're not being forced, why do they keep willingly participating?
It is so giving away the whole game that folks that accuse progressive educators of indoctrinating students are the ones who want "direct and explicit" instruction. It's almost like those of us that are supporting the capacity for critical thinking are actually doing the opposite of indoctrinating.

So what does it mean to be literate only about a narrow list of pre-approved strategies, activities, and topics? Approved by whom, and toward what ends?...Is achievement without agency truly the goal of a literate society? How can we harmonize this with education as a democratic practice?

Pedagogy divorced from content is a non-starter, as the means and ends are linked. In this case, naive but eager eduinfluencers provide a pedagogical blank check that explicit reactionary actors fill in: Explicit Bible instruction in social studies class with none of that woke stuff.
