I think it's a decent simile because the word literally means someone who has had to leave home for political reasons. If this is likely to cause harm to refugees or the way that they are treated, then I'll join you. But otherwise it feels a bit language-policey, no?
Less grumpy about it now. I guess it could come across as language policey/culture warrior stuff, sure. But moving from one social media platform to another isn't really the same as upping sticks from a country of birth, losing everything.
