Walkie talkies: often a likely symptom of behaviour management being more reactive than proactive.
For a brief period at my high school (late 90s) we had security guards with walkie talkies, who were there to intervene in fights between pupils. Hard to imagine a bigger sign that something has gone horribly wrong with behaviour management
But incredibly useful in large outdoor spaces without a glut of staff
And often not reactive... because they can be ignored and there is no paper trail.
Absolutely this. I am all for one person having one of these to respond to someone centrally but few things interrupt classrooms more than background chatter on these things.
Quite handy when you do need to react to something, though.
I hated HATED the walkie talkie system.
When we’re on-call we’re out of our office, proactively walking our (huge) school. Walkie talkie ensures we are contactable on rare occasion we need to teach.
