Walkie talkies: often a likely symptom of behaviour management being more reactive than proactive.

For a brief period at my high school (late 90s) we had security guards with walkie talkies, who were there to intervene in fights between pupils. Hard to imagine a bigger sign that something has gone horribly wrong with behaviour management

But incredibly useful in large outdoor spaces without a glut of staff

And often not reactive... because they can be ignored and there is no paper trail.

Absolutely this. I am all for one person having one of these to respond to someone centrally but few things interrupt classrooms more than background chatter on these things.

When we’re on-call we’re out of our office, proactively walking our (huge) school. Walkie talkie ensures we are contactable on rare occasion we need to teach.
