Canterbury 2024 general election result. It is quite hard for Rosie Duffield to convincingly argue that this decision is about post-election revelations. It seems much more likely that this was her best route to be an Independent in this parliament as would not have won as an independent in July.
The Labour leadership must have been aware of this risk given the long-standing tensions & the MPs vocal criticism. The media profile of an argument with Duffield about gender & sex was presumably a disincentive to act, despite her evident semi-detached status from the party more generally
I think there's an argument for "crossing the floor" or losing the whip to automatically trigger a by election.
She's been implying she'd quit for years so to do so now just seems bizarre
completely cynical and utterly disrespectful to members who campaigned for her
