End of the line. This is the most northerly point of the British rail network. Always feels a bit weird to stand here and reflect on that.

Red buffers in foreground, two rusty railway tracks beyond. A single platform, and a basic roof overhead.

In contrast to the scary news elsewhere, Stromness is looking especially lovely tonight. #Orkney#calm

The shutdown of the UK's last coal power plant this week is a major milestone, if not a terribly consequential one (because the amount of coal used in the last 4-5 years is pretty tiny). Randall Munroe has, of course, thought to calculate something new... xkcd.com/2992/#energy#coal

xkcd suggesting that since the start of the industrial revolution, the UK has "dug up and burned an average of 3 inches of their country". That is, if you averaged it across the country and filled in the holes, the ground would be 3 inches lower.

The UK also has to comply with GDPR (it passed before brexit and was not repealed). Difference is likely that the EU has a history of enforcing this sort of thing against tech giants. The UK... Not so much.

Yeah - they're betting on no serious enforcement.

Opt-in by default for this is (I am fairly sure) illegal in the EU and the UK. But the EU has a history of enforcing against large tech companies, while the UK.... doesn't.

The point of consoles was lower price than PCs and lack of constant patches and updates. They've evolved into single-use PCs that require massive downloads and patches (even for new games). www.techradar.com/gaming/ps5/a...

Are you as horrified by the PS5 Pro pricing as I am? Just buy a gaming laptop instead, seriously

The PS5 Pro is good news for PC gaming - because it’s too gosh-darned expensive for a console
