Two years ago I made a guide on these art thieving sc/ams, where people steal people's work and pass it as their own in order to sell c0mm/issions I have now updated said guide, as this has evolved quite a lot. It is going to be a long thread. Do RT for visibility, please!
Thank you so much for making this! It's been a huge headache dealing with all of these comm bots recently. If you are an artist, make sure to put a signature/watermark on your art that includes your username! It won't stop edited theft or AI generation, but it will at least stop blatant copy theft.
Thank you for posting this, I get so many of these here and on discord. Its a real problem. I often wonder how people fall for these, but then remind myself, NO ONE is 100% immune to scams or propaganda, there is something out there that will fool any one of us.
Had one on FA early in the year. Started with sending me a note, and I just declined because I honestly wasn't looking for art. Then they messaged me in discord and started spamming their art. 1 of the pieces had just been posted on the main page and I was able to contact them about it.
hey, is there any way this could have alt text added? thats a lot of text a screen reader just wouldn't read.
Thank you for this updated write-up on bsky. It'll be good to reference to others when I mention this happening. I have been getting them on here on bsky for months because a majority of what I share is art I've commissioned from others so they view me as an easy target (of which I'm not!)Thank you for this updated write-up on bsky. Great guide! I've been seeing a lot of these pop up sadly, a few of which followed me (including one in your screenshots!)
Another red flag is if the account's feed is full of almost nothing but "completed comms" and fake testimonies, on top of very similar styles of "personal branding" for a banner and in their bio. Commissions is their entire personality. Once you've seen some you know what they look like.
