Bill Clinton banned assault weapons in 1994; mass shootings dropped by 43%. George W. Bush and the GOP let the assault weapons ban expire in 2004; mass shootings increased by 245%. These numbers tell the whole story.
Do you really think there’s no possible ethics use for AI art? Genuinely curious
Weird how every single tech innovation promises prosperity and less work for everyone and ends up with more work and everyone getting poorer
I do not think that there are simple solutions to problems with content moderation at scale. I think it’s a very hard problem and ML with all its shortcomings in terms of training models are kind of a band-aid that scales really well. I don’t think the internet would be better without anonymity
Yeah I think this is generally true - investors are comfortable losing the majority of the time in the hopes of being an early investor in the next Google or whatever, as a result there’s not much of a critical lens that creates this atmosphere of hype for hypes sake
If we’re on an anti-hype train in general, I’m climbing aboard lol I think investors and developers alike overhype things on purpose to try and make a quick buck, and it ruins it for everyone
So all of machine learning / AI is snake oil? I don’t think ChatGPT is coming for your jobs specifically, but ML will continue to be a big deal and already is a big deal imo
The truth here is that each of these were completely overhyped beyond their actual value, so the critique is fair. On the other hand, I do think there is real value to be delivered by some of these, especially machine learning (beyond LLMs, which I don’t think are necessarily the final frontier)
