New article from me. I'm surprised they even approved my pitch; not expecting this one to be terribly popular.
From The Dark and the Wicked to The Blood on Satan's Claw, these are the most harrowing movies about the solitude and danger of farm life.
May I recommend to you THE OTHER 1972? This is among the first horror films I saw (probably around 1974 when I was 7). It freaked me out enough that I was forever freaked out when I’d go into my grandpa’s barn, especially when swinging on the rope in the hayloft, paranoid I’d fall on a pitchfork
Cool to see Isolation on there!! And Eyes of My Mother! And hell yes The Dark and the Wicked, that scared the crap out of me.
"using their agrarian settings to tell stories of solitude, dread, and terror" Glad they approved your pitch. It's a great list!
100% approve! Number 1 is perfect.
Have you seen 1922? It doesn't seem to get the same love as a lot of SK stuff does but it's well worth a watch.
Doing the research for this article and realizing that my mutual @jonathanking.bsky.social is *that* Jonathan King was wild
Love the topic, this would be a fun marathon! There's a couple in here I haven't seen, will add to my list.
Excellent. I would add The Wind.
Isolation! Total hidden gem.
