I think you would dig Del Toroās Panās Labyrinth, which is a great historical movie set in Francoās Spain that also happens to be a dark fantasy parable.
When I was a kid, my parents used to spend their weekends hawking water saving devices at malls. (I donāt know the logistics of how this worked.) Iād get them to give me like ten bucks and buy as many SF paperbacks as I could at Paperback Booksmith and while away the afternoon reading them.
