It’s crazy that the dealer misdiagnosed it so badly.

The wires going to the seat positioning sensor were unplugged. After plugging the wiring harness back in to the sensor, the airbag warning light turned off, and all is well. Money saved, $1500. Hey dealership, maybe next time actually look at the part you’re telling me needs to be replaced?
Got it home, looked under the seat to find the seat positioning sensor that was going to cost $1500 to fix. Guess what I discovered…
Frustrated, I went to pick up the vehicle.
“Can’t you just replace the sensor?” I asked. “Here’s the part number for the sensor, and Ford Parts says it’s only $30.” “Nope, gotta replace the whole system”. They stated.
The estimate came back at $1500! “We have to replace the entire seat track” they said. Apparently there is a sensor in the seat that tells the airbag system how close the seat is to the steering wheel to prevent accidental decapitation from airbag deployment.
Gotta tell you a funny story. My wife’s airbag light kept coming on. The dealer reset the system, and it cleared the light for a minute, but then the evil airbag light was back!! Out of frustration we took it back to the dealership for diagnosis…
