Where I think this gets tricky—& what I’ve seen in my students, at least—is the sense of distrust in big media sources that leads people to believe they’ll only see the true gravity of a situation by watching raw footage of horrible things. We need better legacy media coverage that people can trust.
We have a lot of people (and at the risk of drawing ire, a lot in the queer community) who demand that every character, including villains, must espouse progressive, inclusive values and hahahahaha I hate it so much.
