Georges Méliès' A Trip to the Moon (Le voyage dans la lune) was released 122 years ago today. This silent, black-and-white film is the forebear of everything this account is about.🙏

The original hand-colored version was recovered, restored and released after being thought lost for a century. If you haven't seen it yet, it's a revelation as Méliès designed his pictures with color in mind, relying on it to draw the eye in an otherwise busy scene.
