Oh, I nearly forgot. Danmachi 5 premieres today. It’s my translation baby for the season. Hope everybody enjoys it!

If you want to see newer series get “more” (which can mean: a sequel, an English dub, a home video release, official convention screenings and panels, etc.) then you MUST watch the subtitled simulcast on a legal streaming platform and encourage your friends to do the same. The viewer numbers matter.

Something that came up at a roundtable recently: There is a difference between an audience and "fans." And when looking for manga to publish, a book finding its audience is far more important than a book finding fans. An audience buys and reads the series, which ultimately is all that matters.

One thing I love about this show, and older anime in general, is they knew the value of silence. There are SO many monologues in anime now. It’s rare to go for even a minute without any talking. But this show does it often and to good effect. We don’t need to know what every character is thinking.

Galient looks absolutely fantastic on blu-ray! I love this era of animation so much. The use of stark colors and shadows. The detailed designs and movements. Sunrise at its finest. Really hope people check it out. Official release date is the 15th!

Thanks for your input! Those are all great ideas. I was mostly curious what worked within a game context, but I also wanted some ideas to potentially play up the “romantic” aspect of it. I hadn’t considered using “chemistry”, that’s a good one.

That’s what I figured after a bit of sleuthing around. It seems there is plenty of overlap at least among the video game community, but I wanted to gather input anyway. Thank you! This helps 😃

Translator friends who are into Otome or Dating Sim games, what is the best translation for フラグ? I know “flag” occasionally gets used in English (like death flag), but I’m unsure if there’s a more natural choice. Are “raise a flag” / “trip a flag” something people who play those games would say?

Happy International Translator day! I respect and admire so many of you out there, especially those who freelance and make their names visible. I know you have to deal with lots of unwarranted and misguided criticism. It’s one reason I stay low-key on social media. Never let the haters get you down!

Wishing all translators a beautiful day! 💫 Our craft is rooted in humanity. We are artists, caring for the words of others, sharing experiences with the world while making sure everyone enjoys and understands them perfectly. This is rare and precious. You are rare and precious 🤍
