That happened to me on Twitter. I stopped posting because there were two options for the response: total silence or absolute rage.
I feel like people have forgotten the art of taking a break, letting go, leaving our minds to do the work. If our ideas are seeds, the time between activities is the mulch. But that time gets eaten by inane scrolling and a frantic culture that convinces us that our worth lies in always PRODUCING.
But I read a blog posts that said I should spam memes and follow thousands of random people!
A lot of complaints about Bluesky amount to people admitting that they have grown so accustomed to algorithms feeding them an endless train of slop that they are completely unable to manage without it
I have found The Conversation to be a good source of more measured and in-depth news articles. In fact, I highly recommend avoiding the reactive speed reporting that makes up most of the news flow today. At the very best of times, it paints a skewed picture of the world due to lack of analysis.
Back when I owned one, I would turn on the TV when I woke up and couldn't sleep. I always found it funny how good late night TV was at pointing out that no one in their right mind ought to be awake.
I know what you mean, though I still painfully lose a tiny bit of my soul every time someone tells me what the weather's like today, after which I ritualistically proceed to inform them whether or not that's better than yesterday. Though recently I think I found another ONE OF US at work. :)
Exactly. This will affect the victims more when they defend themselves against people who keep a 'civil tone' as they expound on how trans people shouldn't be allowed to exist or all immigrants are criminals. Telling someone who is arguing that you are not a human being to fuck off is not rude.
A lot of this is great! However, the 'rude' label can have a negative effect, attempting to tone police people who are justified in defending themselves against bigots and harassers. Telling someone to fuck off isn't always rude; sometimes it's perfectly justified, particularly for the marginalised.
Work has begun on... Children of Space Hamsters no? Children of Prime (Sponsored by Amazon) no? Children of Thyme ok now it's just rhymes... I give up!
