It's almost like the conflict isn't between Jews and antisemites, but between pro apartheid and anti apartheid. I can't imagine why the pro apartheid crowd would want to reframe this as antisemitism. So much respect for the Jewish peace activists that have to put up with this hypocritical BS.

It’s ironic that the same people who have bemoaned liberals for having too thin a skin for dealing with the actually threatening rhetoric of right-wingers are all of a sudden like “Hey, calling attention to Israel killing children makes Jewish students feel unsafe!”

I’m glad they’re talking to students but it’s interesting that the article doesn’t actually interview any Jewish students who have expressed fear or experienced antisemitism within or outside the campus. All we get are assertions by a Jewish student supportive of the protests that all is good.

I cannot help wondering how much of this is being driven by the donors to Columbia's endowment. Money does strange things to moral decision making. www.cnbc.com/2024/04/22/b...

This really stood out for me, esp that last line. As usual, when the NYPD are summoned in such numbers, there are always additional reasons that have more to do with politics. I have a laundry list of probable reasons that I will withhold because I’m not here to argue with randos in the replies

Klein: The increased alarm relates directly to the scale of the protests. The protests are larger than anything we've seen before, really, aside from the Oct. 10 protest. As a result, pro-Zionist students feel swamped and don't feel comfortable making their voices heard as opposition just due to the sheer number and constant physical presence of demonstrators.
But just because these students feel unsafe does not mean that the center is going to be overrun by a mob, or endangered by people who are protesting not against Jews, but against Israel. I think the rhetoric is honestly the source of a lot of the alarm, as opposed to what's actually happening. I think it is scary because it feels like campus has been handed over to the police. It almost feels like a military coup. I actually don't think it has much to do with the protests at all.
