Not to go full jesus freak hippie street preacher here but Jesus gives vanishingly few specific instructions in the Gospels and one of them is to be kind to prisoners
There’s a reason conservatives never want to hang up the beatitudes in schools
Jesus wept.
Jesus says “I was in prison and you didn’t come to visit me” and his disciples say “whoa when was this” and he replies “actually if there’s anybody who doesn’t get visited in prison especially if they’re really grody I just consider that to be the way I’m personally being treated”
Seems there are quite a few self described Christians missing the whole "least of these brothers and sisters of mine" bit
Not only is it a specific instruction, it’s one of the very few things he explicitly says you’ll be judged on. Like, it’s literal biblical text that not caring for prisoners gets you a ticket straight to hell.
Shoutout to the mom in TREE OF LIFE for bringing water to the prison work crew.
To be fair to Jesus, he actually said to be kind to both prisoners as well as pretty much every other type of human that our current Republicans despise and want to cancel.
I had some rightwing Christian tell me that that's because prisoners in those days didn't all deserve to be in prison like prisoners nowadays do
