no. they did not. the US has thousands of internal refugees fleeing states where it's no longer possible for them or their loved ones to exist safely in public or obtain legal healthcare. but they did let over a dozen anti choice republicans know they'll be safe under the big democratic tent.
It’s bullshit. The DNC won’t come out in support of trans folks because they know that they will get their votes anyway out of fear of what happens if the GOP wins. They care more about alienating the centrists than doing what is right and standing up for the people that need support.
"its just too hot an issue. too much at stake. what we have to do now is get elected, then physically build the camps (just part of the bargain!) then not react when they create legislation to fill the camps, and by that time it'll be the next election so vote for us & we'll take them apart!"
I just caught up watching the first day of the convention and complained to my wife that only two people even mentioned LGBTQ people. disappointing that it doesn't get more inclusive from there.
And with that, they've made their stance clear. The most they'll do is performative word games, not substantive, coordinated protection of vulnerable minorities.
I'm so tired of being consistently disappointed in the Dems.
someone tried to point to walz saying the government should stay out of the bedroom as a statement of support for trans people and i think if we’re going back to 1950s concepts we might as well start identifying as sexually inverted again
Including a QAnon-adjacent sheriff, whose views on trans people surely aren't genocidal at all.
we got a scant few mentions, that was it. hugely flattening for my morale tbh
this is, for example, a thing you should not say to me or very likely any trans person. we were kept off the stage in the middle of a nationwide crisis that has already cost lives and livelihoods and hope and homes. we are right to be angry and right to loudly ask for more.
luv 2 see “well, actually” from people with the asukafield “transphobia” label who don’t have correct information. sarah mcbride got a main stage speaker slot on dnc night 4 in 2016. she did not get one in 2024. she had a monday lunch hour lgbtq caucus session. before the small business council.
