Finally, reasonable and balanced coverage of the glacier geoengineering efforts that isn't simply goo-goo, in the thrall of the efforts of superheroes trying to sweep in to save the day through tech (which seems unlikely to work and will take decades) www.science.org/content/arti...

To avoid sea level rise, some researchers want to build barriers around the worldā€™s most vulnerable glaciers

What?! Two of Weertman's canonical works were published back to back in the same issue of J. Glac: (1) the tombstone model for basal motion (i.e., Weertman sliding) and (2) the analytical solution for an unconfined, spreading ice shelf. What a year 1957 was! Thanks for your hard work, Weertman!

I'm headed to VA to share a few thoughts with the ice sheet community community on what insurers want or need to know about sea level rise. I can only hope this slide would get the @kellyhereid.bsky.social seal of approvalā€¦

Always nice to see memorials to pioneering seismologists

Holy smokes- this substack is a bleak picture indeed of the present economic and community impacts of climate change. Reminds me of the beautiful and impacting novel, The Light Pirate

Highest known geophysical correlation coefficients?! Check this out: Weighing the Greenland Ice Sheet, month by month, using only GNSS stations around the margin. Essentially as good as a complicated satellite system, at least in this application. agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/...

Itā€™s a shame when you can date a photo by the look of the glaciers in it. Amiright, @iamdonovan.bsky.social?
