The irony is that it WAS taught; but was gradually dropped from the undergraduate curriculum in the 1990s and 2000s. In 1989, at PNL the mandatory first year course included Excel, Access, Hypercard and Word.

And fifteen years before that, one of the first books I was assigned as an undergraduate in the mid-70s was How to Lie with Statistics. It feels like we have forgotten a lot of what we used to teach.
