Although #JokerFolieADeux is a Batman spin-off without that hero, it was fun to see the name B WARD used as a setting, appearing in large white text across a wall of Arkham Asylum.

I found Speak No Evil to be a nail-biting rollercoaster, similar to director James Watkins earlier Eden Lake: A tense thriller/horror covering social anxiety, intergenerational violence, class in Britain, societal masks & a curious hatred of beloved '80s pop music.
Coincidentally, I was rewatching it last week. I think Capra's visual storytelling in the below scene particularly is really special. His next film Meet John Doe is thematically similar & a very relevant film for today, but even more sophisticated & beautiful to look at. bsky.app/profile/timp...

One of my favourite nostalgic genre nods in the show: The fence from Invaders From Mars worked into an establishing shot of St. Canard, for an episode that is itself a loving tribute to William Cameron Menzies classic.

The new Beetlejuice sequel will be released this year, 30 years after The Mask came out at the cinema. Both the 1988 and 1994 film have a scene where a group of people become possessed & forced to sing & dance against their will to a retro song, under neon blue light.
The visuals in this scene from Mr Smith Goes To Washington are so bold. An entire seated dialogue scene with two near silhouettes in black & white against a marble wall. Only tiny bits of reflected light. It's the most visual way to show inner reflection in the shadows.
