There's a widespread perception that the structure of China's economy has shifted significantly toward investment and exports since the pandemic. But that's not really borne out by the official data.

Our data on China’s solar PV export suggests that new markets such as Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are seeing unprecedented growth in solar. In the first seven months of 2024, Pakistan imported 12.5 GW of panels, while Saudi Arabia imported 9.7 GW.
