Just to complicate matters, a sphere is the two dimensional surface of a three dimensional ball, you can identify any point on a sphere with two measurements, longitude and latitude. You could say that the "surface" of the earth is flat (As Hawking does in ABHOT) but curved around in 3D space. Hmm.
The Irish word “bóthar” means road, but it’s more than just a term for a pathway. It originates from the Bó, meaning Cow and therefore roads originate from “cow path” – a track wide enough for two cows to pass! Adding "een" to a word means small ... hence Bó-r-een ... I love this word :)
