The editorial/psychological trademark of the Times is to write headlines that make the point of a piece of news coverage LESS clear than it otherwise would be

Screenshot of headline and capsule points below it:

LIVE Just Now

Harris and Trump Spar Over Abortion, Economy and Foreign Policy

Vice President Kamala Harris put former President Trump on the defensive over his criminal convictions, Covid, the size of his rally crowds and more.
Mr. Trump often took the bait, responding to Ms. Harris’s critiques with a hail of misinformation and personal attacks.

Sweeney’s Hammer: they’re doing it like this because they want Trump to win.

Headline is sub optimal. Subheadings not terrible though.

Note the chosen use of the mild term “misinformation” when others – aka pretty much everyone else in the world bar Trump supporters – would use “lies”.

We live in a clickbait world. You have to get the full article to find out what on Earth they're talking about!

"a hail of misinformation" is just less accurate than the more common Irish expression for what we watched, "a shower of shite"

You have to understand, the censors at the times administer terrible electric shocks if a writer suggests liberals have the better case in any way
