I've just realised, I have absolutely no idea if that's the front or the back.

And that is why I submitted a list before I started posting - no backsies!

#ClassicsTober24 Day 3: Thucydides. A.W. Gomme's commentary on Thucydides both inspires and irritates me, often at the same time. It's magisterial, but Gomme is very much in the camp that believes we should assume Thucydides is telling the truth because Thucydides tells us he is.

Cover of A Historical Commentary on Thucydides, Volume I: Introduction and Commentary on Book I, by A.W. Gomme, published by Oxford University Press.

As a Classical Receptions scholar, I feel there's an article in a cruise ship called the Odyssey. Belfast as Circe's island? Or Calypso's?

God I love trans people so fucking much. They are so badass and brave and just so fucking spectacular. Seriously I just had one of those experiences that made me had to say it. If you're trans I fucking love you with all of my heart. I am so thoroughly behind you.

Me too - indeed, I reassessed my view of the whole genre as a result of this.

I can only assume that they were designed to trick enemy captains into thinking that they had capsized, thus allowing them to get close enough to ram.

@dreadships.bsky.social Came across these on another platform. French, of course.

Two French Ironclads of the Bélier class, moor d up next to each other in a military port. They look like they are upside down. Being French, they may well be.
