Thylacine de-extinction in the news. No info except the PR, so of course can only take them at their word & hope science journalists ask the right questions: *what does a 99.9% complete genome mean (telomere to telomere?)? *how long were the vintage DNA long reads? 1/n

I do not understand what do we mean by de-extinction. Even if we end up growing a breeding pair after genetic sequencing how are we going to avoid inbreeding and subsequent extinction.I do not understand what do we mean by de-extinction.
