Following his invention of the proportional compass, Galileo had his ideas stolen by one Baldessar Capra, who claimed to be the true inventor. The ‘Difesa’, is Galileo’s retaliation. He took legal action against Capra and won, leaving Capra in disgrace. 📐

Work has started on a collection of Byron's works (and works on Bryon!) bequeathed to the Library by historian and book collector William St Clair. It comprises around 1,000 books, including several pirate editions. The books in the box are all 8cm-10cm tall, and all editions of 'Don Juan'.
