Transphobes who get mad about pronouns are weak. I speak Vietnamese. The pronoun I use for myself and the person I’m talking to or about depends on how old I am, how old they are, whether they’re a relative, whether they’re related to my mom or my dad, gender, and more. There are over 20 of them.

All my Filipino friends use she/he interchangeably, literally getting mad about pronouns is so sheltered, and silly

In Tagalog, we’ve got around four or five such combinations (the “I” pronoun is roughly similar regardless of social position) but none of them are gendered (as are Tagalog pronouns in general). So yes, I wonder why Filipinos are worked up about gender when it shouldn’t matter linguistically.

Transphobes who get mad about pronouns usually already hate other countries and cultures and are probably exclusively english and Spanish speakers, so they are also racist as hell and get even more mad at comparisons like this.

Most of those transphobes acknowledge the existence of languages other than English as little as possible.

It’s weird trying to explain to englishers the nuances of if you are a peer or intimate with someone, you call them ‘you-singular’, but if you are being respectful you call them ‘her’ or, if you’re being French, ‘them’.

tho I still think it's funny that even if a guy marries an older woman he's still "anh" (older brother/man) and she's still "em" (younger sister/lady)

Yikes! Amazing you can keep track! And Amazing the language makes room for that.

English doesn't even have a specific pronoun to refer to one neutral- or unknown-gendered human.
