An author just came in and got a library card. When the person looked up their name (to make sure they didn't already have a card) the record for their books came up instead. The author was SHOCKED and DELIGHTED to see we had their books and told the person that we'd made her month. Score!

I thought every author checked the local library's online catalogue to see if their books were there. If nothing else, it helps you realise you weren't wasting all the time you spent writing them.

I always recommend authors sign up for a library card before they start asking about their books, but I didn't think of it as a stealthy way to see if your books were already there and turn that into an introduction!
