I feel like a grinch saying this, because people are so desperate for good news, but the guy is explicitly advertising leather sectionals that have been under TWO FEET OF SEWAGE-FILLED FLOOD WATER and that is — at BEST — a mold disaster waiting to happen. Info literacy applies to good news too!
🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Look for the helpers! There are a TON of people doing good right now and helping their neighbors remove their possessions from condemned apartments, helping people file FEMA paperwork, helping people get medical care. This guy might not be it. Scroll down-thread for FB screenshots.
Giving away soft furniture that’s been under TWO FEET of flood water isn’t altruism, it’s a public health hazard. Giving away $5million of flooded inventory isn’t a good deed, it’s skipping out on paying a removal/dumpster fee and getting your vulnerable neighbors sick in the bargain.
Before you get too excited about altruism, read the fine print: “From Davis's facebook page: … We had 2 feet of water in our furniture store…All of the furniture has been touched by water, but millions of dollars worth of furniture is only water damage and much can be wiped off or cleaned.
It sucks!!! 💜💜
UPDATE: THE DOCKWORKERS WON Per AP, More Perfect, Labor Notes: Shippers agreed to a 61.5% wage increase over 6 years, details still being negotiated, but current contract will be extended to January 15th while they working it out. Some reports there's also an agreement on automation.
This is what I tried SO HARD to teach my students (college frosh) and they were shocked. They’d been taught that Nazis were universally BAD PEOPLE and therefore concluded that the Nazi party took power illegally. When I told them—in fall ‘16 and ‘20–that the Nazis were legally elected? DISBELIEF.
I have been!
And to you as well.
