I guess my point is growing up oppressed (to whatever degree) does make me feel a tad more empathy. Both Bose and John Amery deserved hanging, but I can think the former had a layer of sadness to it that the latter most certainly did not.

Bose didn't really grow up oppressed though. From a wealthy high caste Hindu family which did very nicely out of the British, and given an expensive English education. Not really any different to Amery, or to William Joyce and Unity Mitford for that matter. Just another psychotic rich kid.
