Very different scene then the hotel conference room now that Hurricane [tropical storm] Debby has left Savannah.
Sea urchin bowl [made in Thailand] that I found in an antique shop in Savannah, Georgia. It actually feels like grabbing an urchins test. Great way to kickoff @hollybik.bsky.social’s workshop on telling stories through data science!
Beautiful city!! Happy to provide some recommendation, if wanted.
Springtime in the intertidal means finding lots of eggs and juveniles. This little urchin was one of many. 🦑 (Kachemak Bay, Alaska)
Symbiosis nerds! Some of you might have seen a smattering of recent posts about papers in PLoS Biology, but it's worth looking at the entire special issue, called Symbiosis Across the Tree of Life (edited by Richards and Moran). There are so many interesting reviews, comments, etc. type things here!
The aim of this collection is to showcase symbiotic relationships across the tree of life, exploring their evolutionary basis and underlying mechanisms.
I don’t believe in writers block. Instead, experience has shown me that it reflects that the writer is ill-prepared. In such cases, I spend time (over)reading, thinking, outlining, and talking. I only write after the heavy lifting is done. This tends to be weeks after I first think about writing.

Super fun talking symbiosis and microbiomes at NC State today. Thanks for having me, @manuelkleiner.bsky.social!
