Bloodbark trees are prized for their exotic red wood. Also called Murder Trees, they produce large volumes of sap that imitates blood. Those who strike it become convinced they are killing a person. This is thought to be an adaptation that helps Bloodbarks survive in a deforested world.

The real equivalent I can think of is the red alder. The wood and bruises stain red for awhile until either cured or healed (hence the name).

Ok, but I did actually visit a grove of 'blood trees' in Australia once! Not as dramatic though, much more obviously just red sap

2024: The trees have evolved Red Sap that looks like blood to deter us from killing them. 2124: the humans are desensitized to the sight of blood thanks to the woodcutting industry. 2125: Some random cockroach "Where did everybody go?"
