Paper day! arxiv.org/abs/2401.16469 We use the background galaxies in the SAGA survey to infer the efficiency of winds driven by star formation in low-mass galaxies. We find a mass-loading factor of ~1: consistent with direct observations, but smaller than what some sims predict at these masses.

40 yrs ago tonight - launch of Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) from Vandenberg AFB. Revolutionized our knowledge of FIR Universe, data still useful. Delta plume was beautifully backlit from Tucson; in front of apt w/binoculars, I followed it through 2nd stage sep. Didn't think of camera!
Phil wrote about the JADES brown dwarf work I've been doing on his newsletter today. What's really exciting about brown dwarf science for these objects out in the thick disk or even the halo is what they might be able to tell us about low-mass star formation at these distances.

Does airport Salt Lick count as real Salt Lick? Just asking...
I grew up on these streets.
We'll be giving a press conference on our recent paper at 10:15am Central, You can livestream it (and some other very cool results) or see the recording here! youtube.com/@AASPressOff...aas.org/meetings/aas...arxiv.org/abs/2401.02484
