I think everyone should feel slightly ashamed of their own accent and try to get rid of it. The pronunciation of a language should be artificially defined so that nobody can opt out of that experience. The lack of shame is what I think is ugly. And I’m pretty sure it’s what you think is beautiful.

I have ALL the thoughts on this and couldn’t disagree with you more. As a French immigrant who was actively shamed for her accent in English in the US and then worked to eliminate my French accent because I was made to feel shame for how I spoke, I have a lot of feelings at this opinion.
