There is a story from a 19th century siege of Paris that butchers started selling cat carcasses (not considered acceptable as food!) as rabbit carcasses (completely normal as food!), apparently if skinned and missing heads and paws they're extremely similar.

Man, the number of times someone's found a partially-disarticulated bear skeleton in the woods and called the cops thinking it was a human's remains is crazy. Once the skull and the little bones of the wrists and toes are gone, it looks spookily human.
