Family was a struggle. I wasn't disowned or anything, just disappointed them. 15 years later, (& over the course of time) things did get better. They accept me and my wife as we are. But I want to tell you that it does get better. You as you are, are good enough. You are loved.
When I graduated, I left for college & started interacting with a diverse community. I finally had the courage to come out in the fall of '08, my Sr year. My friends immediately accepted me with no questions or judgement. I finally felt free to be who I was meant to be
I started to hate myself from the bullying. I was a church-goer at the time also. I would lie in bed and pray at night for either God to make me normal or to just k*ll me. I had suicidal thoughts. I never did anything drastic but I struggled with self-diagnosed depression
I was bullied for being smart, for being in band, for being in theater, for not wearing girly clothes, for being too "tomboy", for being quiet. I didn't feel "normal" I was called "he-man" bc I was fairly athletic in gym class. My "friend" called me PJ once bc it was more boyish
Today is #SpiritDay#LGBTQYouth & pledge to combat hate, bullying, & anti-LGBTQ discrimination. This movement is important to me bc I was bullied in HS, before I knew myself, for being, well, myself. (....)
