I left that cesspit a while ago. I donā€™t miss it. This place is still in the phase where itā€™s mostly just funny cat pics. Which is fine by me.

Whatā€™s your sign?

A sign on the wall of an entertainment venue reading ā€œAll children to be off the dance floor by 9.30pm by order of committeeā€

And anyway, thereā€™s nothing in the standards to say data should not include apostrophes (or other non- alphanumeric characters).

Also a great way to advertise that you are too incompetent to protect your database against Bobby Tables. Idiotic.

Pragmatism is fine until tampering with the data has knock-on effects. In this instance, changing the data makes no meaningful difference (except to apostrophe bores) but at the same time itā€™s unnecessary because itā€™s easy to code your way around it. Changing the data in this case is just lazy.

My database coding experience doesnā€™t extended much beyond amateurish dabbling with MySQL and php but even I know this is prime bullshit. The solution to coding shortcomings is NEVER ā€œchange the data to fitā€
