It turns out that the major pharmacies in the U.S. routinely provide patient medical records to law enforcement without a warrant. The potential ramifications of this for anyone on birth control, ordering abortion pills, or medication for mental illness and other personal conditions are staggering.
TY Senator for spotlighting this. As a psychiatrist (& supporter of reproductive freedom) I'm appalled. I wonder how many elected & other public officials (especially those on law enforcement oversight boards) & journalists have been targets of LE intimidation or even blackmail re this. Also HIPPA?
does this mean these pharms are able to be noncompliant with HIPAA? www.hipaajournal.com/hipaa-compli....
HIPAA compliance for pharmacies is a complex subject to tackle - provided the pharmacy qualifies as a HIPAA Covered Entity
where is this published? great chart but too dark
This means that a sheriff in a red state could get a woman's medical records and prosecute her for procuring abortion pills, or even birth control, if Republicans go after contraception as some have promised to do. We need rules in place to protect Americans from warrantless medical surveillance.
Will US become the new China?
Thanks for your leadership on this issue. I wish your colleagues would take action.
I imagine the "you're violating HIPAA by asking me if I've taken the COVID vaccine" people are going to be all over this!
Appears to be hippaa violations by all.
Jesus Rite Aid, do you throw in a blowie with the records?
