It concerns me because I think a lot of the people who have influence (administrators) will more or less ride the wave of Orbanization of the university system, and a fair number of people in TT positions think It Can’t Happen Here. They still think the polite fiction of tenure will save them.

Yes. I think very few administrators will stand up in meaningful ways to these shifts, in part because of fears for their own job security. It will also be the rare Board of Trustees or wealthy donor who will step up to buck these trends. But we can always hope.
